A la Fresco!

Just a quick one, the other night in Drawing, we got to do something other than draw! Which is great =)

Our professor brought in the supplies, and we fresco-ed! Legitimately. We each coated our own board with 3 layers of ground lime (old school plaster) and scoring in-between, waited 20 minutes, dusted pictures via pushpins and charcoal on, and then started painting with some old school pigment too! Here is a picture of my wet fresco, I’ll add a dry one later! =)

My Roman God... Or maybe it's Greek?

I love me some poppies =)

petals are pretty

I took quite a few pictures when I was traveling and I think a few of them work pretty well as backrounds =) That could just be because I like flowers though..

These were taken at the Edinburgh Royal Gardens =)

I don't even like pink, but I think these flowers are pretty cool!

Hope you guys enjoy =) Next time I’ll try for a more masculine backround option

April’s flood brought May Flowers =)

As the semester is officially over, I spent my day cleaning, watching televison, and hiking! Here are some pictures from hiking =) I ❤ wild-flowers!

Walking in a springy wonderland

I picked a bunch of these for my table =)

I just loved this shot because of the reflection

green grass

I don't think I ever realized that the back side of wild clover's are purple!

The bluffs!

This is a post-Valentine’s day post. Usually I am not one for that specific holiday, however I had a pretty awesome Valentine’s day this year! Normal classes in the morning.. Meh. Then on to afternoon and it got busy!

I went to a t-shirt printing company’s workshop with a class I’m not in (I skipped my sociology class to accompany them and it felt Oh So Good, totally worth it.) They’re actually a small design firm and t-shirt printing company combined, and their workshop was so cool! If you’re interested in witty/ well designed t-shirts, check out their site: Wire and Twine . Anycahoosit, the company only has 3 employees I think.. maybe four, is family run and they’re based right out of Oxford, Ohio.

Their workshop is on their farm in an awesome amazing barn! I wish I would have taken pictures to convey just how cool their work space was. The first floor of the barn is where the t-shirt business goes down and the second floor loft space is where the design work happens. I know a barn right, it doesn’t sound fancy? It is perfect, the inside of the barn is plywood but it just seems so warm! Also they have tons of windows and therefore natural light which I am in love with. I always open my shades in the morning and don’t close them till it’s dark out and slightly creepy that everyone can see into my room because my light is on. So yeah, I am totally in love with their workspace, also it’s eclectically decorated while maximizing space, they have wooden cubbies built in that have everything from organizational contents to wacky clocks and candies. So LOve Love Love Wire and Twine, plus Tom the owner who we got to talk to and work with was so nice to all of us!

While we were there we got to screen print our own t-shirts of a cool design they made that morning specifically for us, did I mention how awesome and amazingly nice these people were?! And upon entering the shop they had a bin of old tees and a kids desk full of cds, and told us to take one of each before leaving. So A+ for Wire and Twine and I am beyond happy I skipped my depressing social problems class.

So this is the shirt we got to screen print ourselves! I chose to try out the dark green shirt cause I love green and I was a little nervous as we only had a choice of red or blue ink, and I do not do red and green unless it's Christmas. But it turned out awesomely and I was told I won the award for color choice that day =) ps the screen print says thinking in reverse and it's backwards (clever) but also, the letters were like iron old time printing press letters aka moving type and they definitely designed this with us in mind, plus it's just really cool looking! (fyi, the class I piggy-backed into is letterpress)

While we were there we learned about the screen printing process and the thing they use to make sure the ink is coming through all right before wasting a perfectly good t-shirt is a pluton (spelling?) It's basically a cottony-papery mix, something my mother would use to clean a mirror with because it wouldn't leave streaks. Anyways, I have it haning up backwards on my window shades and when the light shines through I can read it correctly. =)

The free shirt I recieved upon entering, everyone got something different, but I love this little guy! I think everyone needs to lighten up =)

This is the back of my free shirt, upper right corner

So great afternoon/evening at wire and twine and then I came home and walked into my room where I found this:

Wow. A+ to boyfriend too, I could not stop smiling! I know it's ridiculously girly and what not to post this on here, but I just had to share how amazing this was! Also I love that the flowers are not red or pink and other nasty valentine's combinations.. sorry to those of you that do like those combos. Love my flowers though, they're perfect I love daisies, I love yellow, I love purple, And it matches my room perfectly with just the right amount of contrast. Ahhh

Beautiful flowers & I think I have found a new phone backround for a while =)

ps I know I’ve been mildly obsessed with french titles lately, but I did take 4 years of french.. However I still can’t figure out how to make the accent go the other way, I know it’s not right but I figure it’s better to at least have an accent mark even if it is going the wrong way..

Dahlias in her hair

Currently for one of my classes I am making an animation (a really cool animation) of lyrics to go with a song of my choosing. For Christmas this year my sister got me a cd by a local Cincinnati band called Over the Rhine, their website is linked. I have fallen in love with them! The cd she got me is one of their like 20 cds, ‘the trumpet child.’  Anycahoosit, the song I chose of theirs (On a Roll) has a lyric in it “Dahlias in her hair.” Now listening to this song I had assumed that a dahlia was a flower of some sort, I was correct, but I had no idea how cool of a flower it was! I also have a thing for plants, so I got really excited.

And now, I think I found yet another hypothetical child’s name. Dahlia. Ah love it! So here’s one of my drawings that I made in illustrator that will somehow make it into my animation.. I kinda dislike flash right now.. It’s giving me lip. A lot of lip.

violet also happens to be my favorite color

How I draw!

Today the white death did not deliver. At least, not on time. Alas, I had to attend my 8am drawing class. GAG. Surprisingly though, drawing wasn’t too horrible. I liked my subject matter today so it made it a lot more bearable. I actually ended up being a good student and staying after class and working, even though I was told there was another class in that room right away. The drawing Gods were smiling on me today and I knew the next prof from a previous class and her class was going on a field trip today! So all in all, I got to stay and work for another 2 hours making my total time for this drawing roughly 4.5 hours. Which is actually really fast for me, it’s actually relatively insane.

This is the beginning of my first drawing assignment of the semester, another layer of something will be added before it’s turned in on thursday this coming week. It’s slightly abstracted… but to give you a setting it’s the top of a makeshift vase with flowers in it, which I believe you can see in the corner of one of the pictures. I took periodic photographs as I went along today, enjoy my process!

The beginning.. dun dun dun

this might be the same thing as the last.. but the first one was blurry, but it had the flowers so.. win some, lose some

reflections

an ittle bit o' color

more color, less blending

around the back a bit

more..

and more, I think this is a different picture? I'm getting lost in the thumbnails

a little bit of blending!

some more value added to the stems

even more value,, I know these captions are getting ridiculous

I have no idea what changed. I'm sure you're better able to tell when they're full size.

they're abstracty and petals now!

petals sprouting everywhere!

The end. For today =)
